If you’re thinking of working or studying outside of the Czech Republic then it’s important that you score highly on a recognised English exam so you can prove that you’re capable of functioning in an English speaking environment.

With several different exams you can take, doing well involves knowing what questions you’ll be asked and understanding how to answer them. This guide will help you know what to expect from English exams.

What Are the Different English Language Exams?

The most recognised ones are the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language) and CPE/CAE (Cambridge Proficiency English / Cambridge Advanced English). Set by the different organisations, they all use slightly different questions to test the same core skills; listening, reading, writing, and speaking. You need to be comfortable in all these areas to get a high score.

Before you pick an exam, know why you’re taking it. Different universities have a preference for different exams and the same goes for immigration authorities. Overall, the IELTS tend to be the most well recognised.
