Here are some interesting facts about English

English is the most popular foreign language to learn on the planet. Non-native English speakers outnumber the natives almost two-to-one.

Although English is a part of West Germanic languages, its vocabulary has been heavily influenced by Romance languages, French in particular.

It is also the third most common native language spoken. It’s beaten only by Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

English replaced Latin as the lingua franca in Europe and through the British Empire, English spread to all of its colonies and became the first global language.
