Here are some interesting facts about Malay

Malay is a major language in Southeast Asia. In addition to having around 290 million native speakers, it’s also used as a lingua franca in international trade in Indonesia, Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, and the Malay Peninsula.

Malay is known by several names thanks to its use as an official language in several countries. Some examples include Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Indonesia.

In addition to the official versions, there are also several mixed creole, trade, and lingua franca languages based on Malay.

Malay is a part of the Austronesian language family that stretches from Madagascar to Hawaii, including over 1,200 languages.
