Here are some interesting facts about Portuguese

Portuguese, or português, is a Romance language with a quarter of a billion speakers worldwide. Due to the expansionist activities of the Portuguese empire, the language is now spoken in parts of Indonesia, Malaysia, India, West Africa, and, of course, Brazil.

By mid-16th century, Portuguese was the lingua franca used in colonies in Africa and Asia. It was used for communication between locals and Europeans of all nationalities.

The city with most Portuguese speakers on the planet is São Paulo in Brazil. A Museum of the Portuguese Language was also established in the city.

Portuguese has a vast number of different dialects. The most popular for study are either European or Brazilian Portuguese, although different variations of the language also exist within the countries themselves.
