My name is Kerstin and I am a German native speaker working in Düsseldorf, Germany, as a freelance language teacher. I spent many years abroad working in the United States and in Belgium. In Brussels I had the opportunity to teach German. I worked as a teacher in a language school and I also took care of private students. I am now looking back at nearly ten years of teaching and I am still enjoying the contact with an international and diverse clientele.
I am a graduate in economics. A couple of years later, I added a postgraduate degree in hotel management. When I started teaching German, I followed several teacher trainings at the Goethe-Institut covering topics like communication, grammar, German as a foreign language and commercial German. I specialised in 1-on-1 classes for all levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. In addition to conventional German classes, I also offer commercial German for companies and German for the tourism industry. My Brussels clientele partly consisted of employees and civil servants of the European Institutions, embassies, representations, international companies and students of the European schools.
In my classes I try to speak as much German as possible, but I can also give explanations in English and French. I offer 1-on-1 classes and adapt to the student’s needs. I focus on speaking, writing, listening, reading and grammar. As agreed with the student, I use textbooks, exercise books, CDs, DVDs, articles and texts as conversation material, internet video clips etc. I also take care of exam preparation (Goethe-Zertifikat) or job interview preparation. In my opinion it is important to cooperate with the student and not to enforce a specific teaching methodology.
