I am originally from England but have been based in Amsterdam for the last twenty years. I live close to the city-centre on a boat, from where I give English lessons. I like teaching because it gives me the opportunity to meet new people and help them improve a skill.
I qualified as a CELTA teacher in 2000 and since then have worked with adults and children of all ages and levels. I have worked in primary and secondary schools in the Netherlands, with teenagers on summer camps in England and Belguim, and I have taught adults in education and in business. I have given lessons on an individual and group basis, both privately and in-company.
I have prepared individuals and Dutch nationality teachers for English language exams. I have a Bachelors Degree in Teaching English in Secondary Schools and a Masters Degree in Advanced Theatre Practice from London’s Central School of Speech and Drama. I have often used drama in language teaching.
I enjoy giving lessons which are fun, interactive and based on the student’s production. However, my lessons vary according to the student’s wishes. On the first meeting with the student, I work with them to help establish their aims.
I enjoy films and TV, reading, swimming, yoga and walking. I play guitar and write songs and plays, which I occasionally stage in Amsterdam or I act in plays.
